In April IBM said that it would be steering its Watson computer system towards health data, and would base those operations in Massachusetts. On Thursday the company revealed the location of that office space. Surprise! Big Blue will be based in Kendall Square.

This team will be led by Deborah DiSanzo, who IBM named general manager at the opening held at the 75 Binney Street headquarters Thursday. DiSanzo was previously an executive at Philips Healthcare.

The plan is to base an initial 700 employees at this location with room to grow up to 2,000 people.

IBM also named some medical and research partners who will use its Watson system for data storage and management. These will include Boston Children’s Hospital, drug manufacturer Teva Pharmaceuticals, and Seattle-based Sage Bionetworks, which powers Apple’s ResearchKit clinical trials tool.
