In our latest installment of “Beers with…” we sit down with Dave Balter.
Balter wears many hats these days. As the founder of BzzAgent, he helped lead the “word-of-mouth” marketing company to its acquisition by dunnhumby; BzzAgent is now a subsidiary of dunnhumby and Balter remains the executive chairman. He also co-founded Intelligent.ly, which he is a partner of, and served as the executive chair of Smarterer before becoming its chief executive in September.
Oh yeah, Balter is also an active figure in investing in early stage companies in Boston; first, with Boston Seed, which he still plays a role for, and currently as the global head of investments for London-based dunnhumby, LTD.
Word is that dunnhumby Ventures will be having a few new investments to announce over the next few months, so Balter and Co., are definitely an investment team to be watching this fall.
Balter himself, as you’ll see in the video, is one of the more colorful figures in the Boston tech scene. A huge music fan, Balter prominently displays some of the tape covers he used to sell at Phish concerts (as one of his early entrepreneurial ventures). As you’ll see in the video, Balter continues to be a big fan of Phish.
During this episode, you will also see some of Seth Minkin’s artwork behind Balter. Minkin and Balter were classmates at Skidmore, I covered Minkin’s role as Boston tech’s artist-in-residence earlier this year.
