GE Healthcare plans to open a $21 million US life sciences headquarters in Marlborough, which will employ 500—220 of them new hires in Massachusetts.
The company currently employs about 250 in Marlborough in connection with GE’s acquisition of med-tech firm Xcellerex in 2012, Robert Weisman reported for the Globe today.
The 160,000 square-foot facility for GE’s life sciences unit, known as GE Healthcare Life Sciences, is expected to open in the spring of 2015. It will consolidate GE Healthcare Life Sciences’ US East Coast presence and focus on bioreactors, diagnostic tools, and other equipment used in biotechnology manufacturing globally, Weisman reported.
