Lexington’s ownCloud has closed a $6.3 million Series A funding round to expand its file sync and share product for businesses.
The company’s main product is a commercial version of the open-source community project also called ownCloud.
The company said the new funding was led by Fidelity-affiliated Devonshire Investors and also included existing investor General Catalyst Partners, which has its main office in Cambridge.
“With all the concerns about data privacy and security, and the continuing proliferation of BYOD (bring your own device) in companies, it is critical for companies to get back control of their sensitive corporate data,” ownCloud chief executive Markus Rex said in a news release. That’s something businesses can accomplish with ownCloud, Rex said.
The new funding will be used to expand marketing, sales, and development efforts for the product.
The company was founded in 2011 and previously announced raising $2.5 million in November 2012.
